Grain Store

Flinders Lane is often overlooked and underrated with the famous Collins street and Flinders street dominating it from either side, but if you are ever in the city I highly recommend to take a walk down the infamous lane. Today I ventured into the newly opened Grain store, with it's classy cliental and slick interior design, it was a very cosy place to find. Drawing it's inspiration from its historical placement of warehousing grain, it's uses local and fresh produce and it's uses them well! With a great range of freshly made baguettes, sour dough rolls and mini egg and bacon rolls, there's a great variety for the healthy hipster. Granola, chia and kale Are just a few super foods you might have heard going crazy on the streets of melbourne these days and you can find them all here. I left with a super full belly and a buzzing caffeine hit, pleased with my new find.

St Martha

Sitting opposite the popular cafe strip of rose street, St Martha's individuality stands out above the rest. Using fresh, organic produce and serving up one hell of a breakfast this place is a definite winner for your daily brunch outing. It also serves a delicious creamy coffee to make your morning that bit better, adding that extra convenience with an outside takeaway coffee window for those quick pick me ups. Spotting it's yellow umbrella from afar it's an easy place to find.

Gypsy Hideout

Northcote has it going on, and with so many great breakfast/lunch,  (or some would say brunch) spots to try I opted with the funky little spot named Gypsy Hideout. With it's pastel, bright interior it was a present place to dine, delivering a different variety of breakfasts it was hard to choice just one.
There's also an outside dining garden for those sunny days.

Italian Pizza at its Best!

400 Gradi have bought their very best traditional pizzas all the way from their home of Italy for Melbourne to enjoy, And have done it well! Winning the worlds best pizza award for the old classic Margarita, it has flavours I didn't even know existed on such a plain pizza. In saying that, all their pizzas create a delicious flavoursome pizza that you never want to end. If your looking for a nice place to dine that delivers great food this is your spot! But make sure to book well ahead, otherwise you will be seen waiting out in the cold for 2hours or more on a Saturday night.
If your not a big pizza fan, they also offer a wide choice of home made pastas, entree dishes and deserts. And if you have a bit of a soft spot for wine, well the menu itself will take you half an hour just to read the list.

Coal Fire and Ice- Nat Geo Special *featured article*

I am a huge National Geographic fan and idolise everything they do. So as soon as I saw there was a live stage show, featuring some of their talented and very lucky explorers, I jumped at the chance to buy tickets to the show.

National Geographic LIVE featuring talks about previous exhibitions and explorations, David Doubilet let us into his adventurous world as an underwater diver/marine photographer. Sharing stories with us from his amazing adventures to the deep dark depths of all kinds of bodies, from Papa New Guinea, to Antarctica waters, to his home town waters of the Gulf of St Lawrence. He has encounter some very unique moments with rare marine animals, not always pleasant, but David's love and passion for the underwater world showed he has never felt threaten by these animals. Discovering this world below the surface is a very rare experience, and David has been able to capture some amazing photographs, but he is also discovering the impact climate change and human behaviour has on the eco system that lives beyond the land including declining numbers of harp seals and buluga whales and the loss of beautiful coral systems.

If you want to hear and see more from National Geographic LIVE, Bryan Smith an extreme film maker is coming to Melbourne on October 4 to share his stories experienced on extreme adventures and how he is able to capture such thrill seeking moments.

Trailer Park

Melbourne's food vans are an ever growing novelty of this crazy cultured life we live, and if you are yet to experience one, why not experience 4 at once! It does make it difficult in deciding what to try, but why not get something from each as they all have their own unique flavours. Ormond hall hosts Trailer Park weekends, alternating which food vans get to win a spot at the popular court yard in St Kilda. With these vans spreading themselves out all over Melbourne its a challenge in itself to know where to find one, let alone 4 in the same spot!

Mamasitas

Mexican deliciousness. Best enjoyed between a group of friends, try the variety of traditional street food eats, served in groups of four to share amongst you, or if your going solo there are your old favourites to endulges in like a quesadillas, enchiladas and tachos. It's a busy little haven, that can have quite a line at times, so make sure you get there early if you get abit of hangry (angry when your hungry). And don't forget to get yourself a delicious Mexican cocktail or the traditional sangria, it's a solid must! Mamasitas carries a great friendly vibe, so if your looking for an enjoying meal out, you've found your place!

Howler- $5 Pho Thursdays

For every Thursday in July Howler has been putting on Pho night, and it was as good as it's expectations held. With a choice of your favourite pho, and then add your own flavour to your tastes delight.
Not only is the Pho great! The venue is just as creative, what once was an old warehouse is now a funky, outdoor/indoor room, nice and warm cozy in winter, but come summer, the roof opens up and let the sun shine in. There's djs playing most nights of the week, and they host live gigs during the week. There's also ping pong comps and cheap beers during the week! With so much going on, it's a definite must to go check this place out.
It's tucked away at the back of the car park, but the giant zebra on the wall will help you find it's doors.

Olympic donuts

For as long as you can remember Olympic donuts was functioning out of an old caravan just outside Footscray station, but not anymore. But as the station has undergone redevelopment, the old iconic van has been taken away and replaced with an actual shop front. Still in the same position but more comfortable for its employers? Some people are still a bit apprehensive about this new change and would rather see the rustic vintage caravan back in its place. But there is one thing I can defiantly say is that these donuts can still be challenged for first place in Melbourne's best donuts!
