Macedon Ranges

Escaping to the country side; I stepped outside the car and took a deep breath of the freshest air I've breathed in awhile! It was a beautiful winters days, the sun was shining through the clouds but it was still cold enough that you could see your own breath. Mt Macedon was on the day's adventure list as a place to escape the city and step out into nature and enjoy the beautiful scenery I had heard so much about. It felt like we had only just left the city skyline behind and we were already seeing the turn off for Macedon. The two most popular attractions of the region are the iconic Mt Macedon and Hanging Rock. Having driven past it so often but never actually stopping to see the sites, i felt it had to be done.
- Mt Macedon was a very easy walk, driving to the top of the mountain took away all the hard work, but the view at the top was a worth while site. The huge memorial cross placed up high, commemorates the fallen solider's of the first world war and on a clear day you are able to see the city skyline from afar. There are lots of picnic areas to enjoy, and longer walking trails if your feeling adventurous, or you can enjoy a fine dining experience in the Top of the Ranges- Tearoom
-Hanging Rock; I have heard so much about this mysterious volcanic rock formation, so I was quite excited to finally see what all the hype was about. After a $10 entry fee, it clearly doesn't deter away its visitors as the place was packed with tourists. Before climbing the short walk I stopped to take a quick walk through the information centre, which held some interesting facts about the rocks. Not forgetting the famous story about the mysterious disappearance of school girls, being true or not, it still left an eerie feel about the place, but upwards we went. The walk is fairly easy to the peak, and once you reach the summit the 360 views of green countryside as far as the horizon are quiet picturesque.

I defiantly recommend this pleasant outing as a great excuse to escape the busy, crowded city life and enjoy a bit of fresh air. Being so close to Melbourne there is no excuse not to go.
